A. Lange Sohne represents the foundation of the fine watchmaking industry in Germany. Most consumers think that fine watchmking is limited to Switzerland. In fact, many of the finest watches and greatest innovations come from the German watchmaking industry. Glashutte, a small town in the Ore Mountains of eastern Germany, is the heart of the German watchmaking indsutry and home to the A. Lange & Sohne manufacture. The story of A. Lange & Sohne is both inspiring and rich. Founded by Adolph Lange in 1845, this company has kept its roots in Glashutte. The story behind A. Lange & Sohne began in Dresden the nearby capital of the state of Saxony. A local watchmaker named Gutkaes was asked by a member of the local Royalty to create a unique clock for the local Semper Opera. The result was the famous five minute digital clock. Adolphe Lange created a partnership with Gutkaes. After creating horological masterpieces for various European nobles, the partners moved to the small town of Glashutte from Dresden and A. Lange & Sohne was born. A. Lange & Sohne has pioneered several major innovations that helped propel A. Lange & Sohne to the top of the fine watchmaking world.
