Zenith Defy XtremeZenith watches certainly have some of the most confident designs on the market. While those who prefer classic watches will find representation in the Chronomaster and Class collections, the highly respected Swiss manufacturer has responded to an increasingly open-minded luxury market with timepiece collections that range from provocative to flamboyant and downright wild. Whether you love some of these Zenith timepieces, or you don’t, these designs WILL provoke conversation and keep Zenith in the headlines. If you aren’t familiar with some of these designs, just have a look at the mens’ Defy Xtreme watch collection, or the Queen of Love collection for women.

While my own watch tastes are conservative, I’ve come around to warm up to many of the more expressive Zenith designs. Why? Because classic watch designs will always be available (including from Zenith), and its always nice to see something different–particularly when it happens to be superbly crafted, and has the exclusivity and heritage that a brand like Zenith does.

This is particularly important when trying to court new female buyers. While Zenith may carry a great deal of weight with (primarily male) collectors who respect Zenith’s history and superb manufacture movements such as the “El Primero”, many women do not necessarily share the same obsession. By creating eye-catching, fashionable designs like those found in the Glam Rock, Baby Doll, or Starissime watch collections, Zenith has made these mechanical watches exciting, fashionable, and glamorous for these customers.

    • the Defy Extreme in black and gold (don’t think they have arrived in the US market yet) is pretty cool. What I can’t figure out is…….are these so trendy that they won’t be cool in 5 years? I like’em now but edgier designs seem to have a “timestamp” on them. Any thoughts out there Zenith fans?

    • Totally concur on that point. I love some of the new designs, for example the Port Royal Concept chronograph which is very cool looking; edgy yet within bounds, so to speak. But others…like the Port Royal Tourbillon, where the silly grill covers up the tourbillon and the chronograph functions, or that other tourbillon with all the radiating lines across the face???? Horrendous.

Nataf is a little fashion crazy it seems…I dunno, maybe he’s been partying too hard with Franck Muller!
