    Panerai Luminor Base watch

While there might be more exotic Panerai watches, you really can’t go wrong with picking up a classic Panerai Luminor Base. What’s there not to enjoy here? You have everything that makes a Panerai great–the unmistakable style, bold size, unique crown, and elite military diving heritage–with nothing extra added. The Panerai Luminor Base watch has to have one of the cleanest and most classic sports watch dials of any on the market. Since you don’t have a GMT display, a chronograph, or even a subsidiary seconds subdial, there is no visual clutter–just a superbly attractive and extremely legible time display. Here, less is definitely more. Another aspect that makes the Panerai Luminor Base watch a fantastic addition to any collection–be it a dedicated member of the Paneristi, or a person just acquiring their first Panerai–is its fantastic durability. The foundation inside the Luminor Base is the Unitas 6497 manual winding movement, one of the most rock-solid movements ever made. The fact that it’s hand-wound will appeal to purists, and this aspect also makes it theoretically more trouble-free than even the most rugged automatic caliber, simply because you don’t have an automatic winding system, with its extra complexity (reversers, etc.) to contend with. Wind this great-looking watch up, lock the crown in place, and you have a historically important sports timepiece that will keep up with anything you might be doing, either on dry land, or under the water. The price of this Luminor Base is also quite reasonable, making it a great choice for anyone looking to enter the Panerai watch fraternity without an overly excessive sacrifice.
