• Panerai’s Ferrari GranTurismo watch collection: subtle styling, elegant sportiness

    Panerai Ferrari GranTurismo Automatic watch

Kudos to Panerai for the understatement of their “Ferrari Engineered by Officine Panerai” GranTurismo watch collection. While there will be those who will disagree, I think the subtlety of the Ferrari cues on this collection is really nice. You have the straps, for one thing—the white stitching on the black is sporty but extremely classy. The classic Ferrari red (or yellow) is there, but is only visible on the underside. The dials are great looking too, with that hobnail pattern, and selectively applied colored accents. Even the GranTurismo Chronograph, the only models which have red or yellow dials, manage to not appear over the top–just distinctively sporty. For me, that the “Cavallino Rampante” medallion is in silver for most models is a definite plus. For those who enjoy the craft of either Panerai or Ferrari, but for whatever reason don’t want or need a watch whose dial is emblazoned with a bright yellow Scuderia Ferrari emblem, this Panerai GranTurismo line is well worth considering.

    • Have to disagree with you on this one Adam. As a Panerail collector, I would have preferred the brand Panerai to have top billing on this watch. In the world or merchandising, Ferrari oftens brands items which can be less than representative of their quality and heritage. This is a bueatiful timepiece certainly, but it should be “Panerai for Ferrari” on the dial. The only real recognition Panerai gets is on the buckle of the watch. I don’t think it is enough.

    • I see what you are saying Adam, but I’ll have to agree with Matt on this one. I want to see the evidence that Panerai made this watch; similarly, if I buy a Ferrari, I expect to see the SF shield, not “Officine Panerai”. :)

Otherwise, these are very nice watches and in fairness I want to handle one before any harsh “judgments”.
