  • Ellen Page – Juno grabs 4 Academy Awards Nominations

Ellen Page at the PCN Gala - Oscar NominationsEllen Page is up for a Best Actress Oscar for Juno this Sunday, and I will be rooting loudly and proudly…from my living room.

I can’t imagine what it’s like to play a 16 year old pregnant teenager on the big screen, nor can I even fathom what it would feel like to be pregnant at that age either. Thankfully, we all have Ellen Page to thank for giving us insight into how it would feel, and the rest of the brilliant cast of Juno to react to her character with hugely unexpected remarks. With her representation of writer Diablo Cody’s Juno, Page is witty, snappy, bitter and downright hilarious. Lines like “I’m just gonna go ahead and nip this thing in the bud. ‘Cause you know, they say pregnancy often leads to, you know – infants,” and “You should’ve gone to China, you know, ‘cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods” are definitely not phrases you hear every day, let alone think of saying or even contemplate how to deliver to get the right tone and reaction from an audience.

I can’t gush enough about this film and about Ellen Page’s performance; Juno is smart and fresh, which is surprising for a small movie about a pregnant teenager on a quest to find the perfect parents for her unborn child. Page alone has already won awards from the National Board of Review and Satellite Awards, while the film has gained several wins of best comedy or movie and best original screenplay or writer at those awards, in addition to the BAFTA, Critic’s Choice, Writers Guild of America and Rome Film Fest Awards.

If you haven’t seen Juno, run out to the theater now! Once you see it, you’ll understand why everyone is rooting for this seemingly underdog of a movie that has turned into a huge gem of indie films this year.

  • Chopard Necklaces and Chopard Jewelry A Favorite on the Oscars Red Carpet

Chopard Necklaces and Chopard Jewelry A Favorite on the Oscars Red CarpetChopard necklaces and jewelry, like this one here, are annual favorites of the Hollywood stars for the Oscars.

Year after year, the A list celebrities can be seen proudly wearing Chopard diamonds. Last year, we saw less diamond necklaces and more bracelets and earrings. This year, however, we could see a change in the tides in which Chopard necklaces make a strong comeback.

The nominees for actress in a leading role include Cate Blancett (”Elizabeth: The Golden Age”), Julie Christie (”Away from Her”), Marion Cotillard (”La Vie en Rose”), Laura Linney (”The Savages”), and Ellen Page (”Juno”).

The nominees for actress in a suporting role include Cate Blanchett, again, (”I’m Not There”), Ruby Dee (”American Gangster”), Saoirse Ronan (”Atonement”), Any Ryan (”Gone Baby Gone”) and Tilda Swinton (”Michael Clayton”).

Of all of these talented actresses, I envision Cate Blanchett, Marion Cotillard and perhaps Julie Christie as the most likely of the these nominees to wear Chopard necklaces of any of their other fine luxury jewelry.

  • Matthew Perry at the W Magazine Oscar Pre-Party

Matthew Perry at W Magazine’s Pre Oscar Party 2008Who doesn’t appreciate a good friend – even if he is a little shabby ?
With a casual look, Friends star Matthew Perry is a bit underdressed for the W Magazine Oscar Pre-Party and doesn’t seem to care either.

He doesn’t seem to have his usual Matt Perry charm about him. He’s barely giving us a closed-mouth smile and I think he could use a hair-cut and maybe even a shave. Was he aware this was an Oscar pre-party?

So, what has the former Mr. Chandler Bing been up to since his New York “Friends” days?

He had a couple of one episode roles on different TV shows including “Scrubs”and “Friday Night Lights.” He also starred in a couple of films including Hoosiers II: Senior Year, Numb and The Ron Clark Story as the title character.

His biggest endeavor was his role as Matt Albie on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional sketch-comedy TV show – created by Aaron Sorkin. The ensemble cast included the likes of Amanda Peet (his former co-star from The Whole Nine Yards movies – funny!), Bradley Whitford of The West Wing drama TV series (I loved that show!) and comedian D.L. Hughley and a whole bunch of others.

Matthew Perry’s latest project is a film to be released late this summer called “Seventeen Again.” You can imagine what this movie is about: a man whose life didn’t quite go the way he wanted, wakes up one day to find himself 17 again and with the chance to re-write his life. Luckily for us, this movie is a comedy so I bet he’ll be at his best.

Now only if Matthew Perry could have been at his best here at the W Magazine Oscar Pre-Party… and what will he wear to the Oscars? Will he at least get a haircut and a shave and not wear jeans?
