Omega Railmaster XXL Chronometer watch
Fans of supersized and vintage-inspired watches will delight in the Omega Railmaster XXL Chronometer watch.  This unmistakable member of the Seamaster watch collection, can best be thought of as a classical railroad pocket watch redesigned for the wrist.  This is partly due to its exceptional 49.2mm side-to-side dimensions, but it also has to do with its manually wound slow-beat movement, which has received COSC chronometer certification–a nod to the accuracy standards which were so critical to the mission of true railroad watches.

This brobdingnagian Omega watch may overshoot most wrists, but it is extremely well designed (and I say this as a sometimes cynic of the monster-sized watch trend).  The stainless steel case is wonderfully detailed, and the fantastic matte black dial with its luminous figures radiates an irresistible tool-inspired aesthetic.  Another big plus is the lack of a date display–this is one timepiece that would be diminished by any additional displays.  The manual wind movement, based upon a classic Unitas 6498 caliber, is a real delight. Omega has gone to considerable lengths to refine this caliber with some very nice decorative details.

You can also feel the mechanical refinement of the movement as you undertake the pleasant task of winding the Railmaster XXL timepiece; place it to your ear, and you are rewarded with a slow, pleasing “tick-tock” that virtually transports you to an earlier period of history.
