Johnny Depp – A Star Among “Public Enemies”

Here’s Johnny Depp, looking quite dapper with his signature glasses and a striped suit. This year has been quite nice for Johnny already, as he won a Golden Globe for his performance as a singing murderous barber in Sweeney Todd. In my personal opinion, he should have won every award for which he has ever been nominated, since he seems very humble of his obvious talent and versatility. As a former brand ambassador for Montblanc, he’s been generous with his time as well, joining Montblanc and the Entertainment Industry Foundation for a public service campaign for children’s art education a while back. An all around good guy!Who could’ve predicted his rise to fame from his days as a cute undercover cop on 21 Jump Street? And who knew a pirate could be so charming and sexy? Johnny is anything but predictable, because he’s always taking a new role that challenges his acting abilities. Johnny plays infamous bank robber John Dillinger in his next movie, Public Enemies, directed by Michael Mann, and co-starring Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, Stephen Dorff and Giovanni Ribisi – just a small group of talent there. This is a truly impressive cast playing the notorious American gangsters from the 1930s. They’re filming right now in Indiana, and Johnny’s been greeting his fans as the gentleman we all know and love. I can’t wait to see Johnny and his bad boy sidekicks when Public Enemies hits the big screen in 2009.

The Making of “Public Enemies” at Crown Point Indiana at the Historic old jail where John Dillinger Escaped with a toy gun ban on the 30’s.
Crown Point , IN , March 25th, 2008. The people of Crown Point , Indiana ,
cannot believe that a Super Star, Johnny Depp is in town!
I went to Walgreen’s to buy some supplies and the cashier gave me some
inside information, like the exact place of the filming, the hotel where
film’s crew were staying, including Johnny Depp and other interesting info.
Small town, you know…
I was really excited to see Johnny Depp as “John Dillinger” breaking from
the local jail, even though I already worked with him on the film Don Juan
De Marco, where I spent a couple of months of excitement between Los
Angeles, California and Hawaii. Johnny Depp was a real cool guy then, even
though he wasn’t nearly as famous as he is today, but we used to hang out on
the beach with Mr. Marlon Brando and Faye D. (mean lady)…
Anyway, my wife and I drove from Chicago to Crown Point to visit a friend
who happens to be one of the Producers for Public Enemies. I worked with him
on a film “Heat” starring Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Val Kilmer, and also on
the film “Ali.†I haven’t seen this guy for a decade and I was happy that
he recognized me after all these years. He’s a really cool guy who invited
me on the set to hang out all the time during the filming.
In the Fans’ area, we met amazing people, J.D’s Fans, starting with
“Hardcore Fans” like Maggie Calabrese and Maria Becerra who reserved their
spots since the night before at 11 p.m. It was 2 p.m. when we met them!
It was cold during the day. I can’t even imagine what they went through to
reserve those spots which they very nicely shared with me and my wife,
including their portable lazy chairs, hot chocolate, blankets, food,
cigarettes and stories.
We also met their Moms who happen to also be J.D’s hardcore fans and
sisters, so Maggie and Maria are cousins from Crown Point , IN.
It was exciting to be part of the filming and even though we were in the
Fans’ area, you felt like part of the crew, since we were right in front
and the Assistant Directors would kindly share the drills on the set like,
“Quiet Please,” “Rolling,” “Cut” and “It’s a wrap”.
It was really exciting to feel the passion from all these people who
literally adore Johnny Depp. They had all kinds of signs that said, “Johnny
Depp, will you marry me?†“I’m your # 1 Fan in the World,†“Maria &
Maggie Love Johnny,†“Johnny, I’m Your Biggest Fan, Savy”, “I Love you
More than All the Fishies in the Sea and All the Rain Drops in the World”
just to name a few….
At the end of the filming, tons of Fans wanted to see at least a wave from
their hero, at least a hello, a smile, anything.
I have to admit that my wife and I gave up waiting, so we decided to hit
back to Chicago , however; we had a pit stop to use the bathroom, which I
was using when my wife called me hysterical to hurry-up! She got a call from
our new friend Maggie letting us know that Johnny Dillinger came back!!!
So there we went again, back to the set. Amazingly the crowds got even
bigger!!! like tripled or so…We heard the screams (which you can hear from
the video clip here!)… then followed the yelling and got caught up in the
euphoria of being a hard core fan and I admit that I was saying “Forget
about it” to Johnny Depp, for his role on Donnie Brasco and “Savy” on POTC.
I guess, Johnny Dillinger, (aka Johny Depp), went to his trailer, changed
his outfit, probably took a shower and relaxed for an hour or so then he
came out. Tons of people were disappointed and left, but the really hard
core ones stayed and notified others that J.D. was coming back.
Johnny Depp blew my mind. He went from the beginning of the line to the
end, he shook hands, signed autographs, took pictures, hugged his fans. No
other actor stayed; everyone was gone, even the Director and the main crew.
A standing ovation for Mr. Johnny Dillinger, I mean Johnny Depp. He’s a
freaking Cool dude!… I’m infected…
