F.P. Journe has unveiled a minute repeater this year, to join the exceptional Genevan brand’s Souveraine collection. This timepiece is a fabulous encore to F.P Journe’s staggering Sonnerie Souveraine, one of the world’s most complicated and horologically ingenious timepieces.
Extremely complex in its own right, the F.P. Journe Repetition Minutes Souveraine watch is constructed to extremely thin, yet offer great sonority for the chimes. Borrowing the unique flat gong that is also found in his grand sonnerie, as well as engineering a system of racks and striking selectors that are much more compact than other repeaters, Francois-Paul Journe managed to achieve both of these goals. Some may find it interesting that this watch–like the Sonnerie Souveraine–does not have a case crafted from gold or platinum (the traditional materials employed in such prestigious complications). The case is in steel, which the gifted watchmaker adamantly states is the optimal material to amplify the gongs.
Above all, the Repetition Minutes Souveraine is beautiful, having that inimitable combination of elegance and idiosyncratic design that defines each F.P. Journe watch.
