Omega Museum Collection No8 Racend Timer watchI doubt I’m the only watch enthusiast who was pleased by the Omega Museum Collection No8 Racend Timer, which was unveiled at Baselworld 2008.  A delightful throwback to classical Omega chronographs from the 1940’s and 1950’s, this timepiece has a number of charming details that are straight off the page of important historical predecessors.

My favorite aesthetic elements of the Omega Racend Timer watch are the square chronograph pushers, and the amazing dial, with its applied triangular indices, leaf-shaped gold hands, and bi-colored tachymeter and pulsometer scales.  Classic, and extremely beautiful.

The great thing about this Omega watch, is that for all its vintage charm, it is up to the minute, horologically speaking, with the superb chronometer-certified Omega 3201 caliber “under the hood”.  This self-winding chronograph movement has all the technical accoutrements, including a column-wheel and vertical clutch coupling (meaning your chronograph central hand will start without hand “shudder”, AND you can keep the mechanism running as long as you like, something not recommended with horizontal clutch chronos).  Another plus is the famous Omega Co-Axial Escapement, which offers several long-term advantages over the widely-used Swiss lever escapement.
