Tilda Swinton returns to the big screen this month for her second performance as the White Witch in the second installment of the Narnia films, the “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” The first Narnia film “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” - a child’s fantasy genre movie - was the second time in less than a year in which she gave a roaring performance in a Hollywood produced film - her first being Michael Clayton. Her work in the legal thriller “Michael Clayton” caught the attention of the Hollywood film industry leading to her nomination, and subsequent win, for Best Supporting Actress at the 2008 Academy Awards. Until now, her acting career had been appreciated more by an international audience.
Her work in Michael Clayton undoubtedly overlapped with her role in “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” as the White Witch – two roles that are completely different from each other, but each of which she delivered in magnanimous fashion. As such, she enjoyed the praise and warm response from the first Narnia film as she prepared for the Oscars. With her blazing red hair contrasting with her skin tone, she wore a black, silk satin Lanvin dress with arm fully exposed and the other ¾ exposed for a stunning Roman goddess look that no one woman could have executed with as much elegance as she. Her overall look was without embellishment – sans make-up, earrings, fancy hair – keeping the focus on her incredible Damiani diamond Sahara cuff bracelet featuring 1865 diamonds totaling 47.41 carats. She also wore a 4.21-carat diamond Mimosa ring. Her red carpet look was the most original of the entire event as was her hilarious acceptance speech where she thanked fellow co-star George Clooney for wearing his batman suit underneath his lawyer attire during the filming.
