The Piaget Emperador Cushion Perpetual Calendar is a great new addition to the fine lineup of this distinguished Swiss brand. A perpetual calendar complication combined with a dual-timezone function is quite unusual, and that alone makes this Piaget timepiece extremely attractive. I also admire the eccentric displays, particularly the overlapping retrograde date and small seconds indications; it’s extremely appealing–especially against the rich dial background colors–and gives this model a unique “pop” that many traditionally organized perpetual calendar watches lack.
The cushion-shaped case of this Piaget watch is truly magnificent, and a one of my favorite case designs currently on the market. Its elegant combination of brushed and polished surfaces highlights the renowned skill of Piaget as a jeweler, and is a treat to the eye and the touch. Like every detail on this timepiece, there is a strong element of classicism, but also a great expressive freedom.
