In the category of exclusive luxury watches with a car theme, the Azimuth Twin Barrel Tourbillon is a newcomer of note. Still apparently in the testing phase (but expected to be available from June 2009 onward), this model–which Azimuth says is “not a watch, but a complex modern machine” stands out not just for an innovative mechanical movement, but a strikingly original titanium case which resembles a miniature Lamborghini Murcielago! New from Swiss watchmaker Corum in 2009, will be a titanium version of its brilliant Golden Bridge timepiece. While not a major change–more of a theme on a variation–the titanium case ideally suits the beauty and almost ethereal “lightness” of the Golden Bridge watch, with its hand-wound baton movement seeming to float in space. While you probably can’t find an actor-watch-car triangle more enduring than that represented by the late Paul Newman, a passionate race-car driver famed for his association with the Rolex Daytona Cosmograph…Patrick Dempsey is making a name for himself here, as well. The actor and his racing team “Dempsey Racing” competed at the 24 Hours of Daytona recently; not surprisingly, Dempsey wore a JeanRichard watch.

For those fascinated by the human stories that inevitably accompany watches, Antiquorum’s March 2009 sale is sure to be an event of interest. Among the many items on the block include a Zenith pocket watch owned by Mahatma Gandhi, a 14K gold Nastrix wristwatch that was a favorite of John F. Kennedy, and a gold Patek Philippe Ref. 1516 watch that mobster Lucky Luciano gifted in 1957 to Joseph Bonanno, Sr. of the infamous Bonanno crime family.

The Grammy Awards took place last night and star songstress Jennifer Hudson arrived with Cartier jewels in tow. Hudson, who was a nominee at the awards ceremony, walked the red carpet in this high collar, color block cocktail dress from RM by Roland Mouret, paired with cobalt blue suede Christian Louboutin heels. To top off her radiant look, Hudson went with dangly diamond earrings and a diamond bracelet, both by Cartier. In this image, her engagement ring is apparent, and there is no lack of diamond brilliance on her finger either! Continue Reading… »
