With timepieces, jewelry, leather goods and more, Charriol is a designer brand that thinks and acts big. Though they are a relatively new brand (launched in 1983), Charriol has made a big impression in the past 25 years, and the brand has grown to include 3,200 retailer and 71 boutique stores.

As one of the most enduring design styles in the Charriol line, the “Celtic” collection has been reinvented a number of times by Charriol. The “Celtic Noir” jewelry collection pairs stark black cable with pave diamonds set in 18k white gold. The extreme contrast of the black cable and white diamonds is elegant and eye-catching. This stunning bracelet design also adds natural black diamonds to the mix of materials for a unique and fashionable look.

  • Breguet La Tradition Tourbillon Watch: Haute Horlogerie Perfection

Posted on March 29th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Breguet’s La Tradition Tourbillon watch was one of the most ravishing showstoppers on display at Baselworld 2009.  While technically not a novelty for this year (it was debuted in 2007), the La Tradition Tourbillon is a true rarity, and to see it in the metal was a decided privilege for me.  In contrast to the comparatively garish pyrotechnics of the uncharacteristically large (for Breguet) Double Tourbillon which has gotten the most attention of late, the La Tradition tourbillon is a statement of ingenuity and refinement straight from the page of Abraham-Louis himself. Rose gold and its closely related kin, red gold, were a clearly dominant theme at Baselworld 2009.  Among the brands who put the luxurious presence of such opulent 18-karat alloys to excellent effect was Milus, who unveiled their visually delightful Tirion Triretrograde Seconds Skeleton watch in a particularly luscious shade of rose gold.   This results in an already charming and technically captivating timepiece becoming an exquisite piece of masculine jewelry (although ladies inclined to wearing larger watches will certainly take to it with equal enthusiasm!). Blancpain, one of the Swiss haute horlogerie brands most associated with classicism, has steered boldly into a more contemporary direction with the introduction of the L-evolution watch collection.  One of the biggest attention-getters at Blancpain’s exhibition at Baselworld 2009, these models reflect the artisanal workmanship we’ve come to expect from Blancpain but in a refreshing new format, along with new in-house movements developed from the 13RO “8-day” caliber.  The outstanding features of these movements include a free-sprung titanium balance with proprietary gold adjustment weights, and a system of three spring barrels for an impressive power reserve. Seeing the TAG Heuer Monaco 1969 Original Re-Edition Chronograph in the metal at Baselworld 2009 confirmed all the good feelings I had when I first learned that TAG Heuer would be bringing back this sports chronograph legend.  The end result is a stylishly retro timepiece that brings back all the key characteristics of the chronograph which Steve McQueen wore in the cult film “Le Mans”.   Continue Reading… »

The Ulysse Nardin Moonstruck watch is easily one of the most impressive debuts at the 2009 Baselworld exhibition.  Sharing a bit of the “DNA” of the brilliant Tellurium Johannes Kepler watch from the famous Ulysse Nardin Trilogy of Time, the new Moonstruck again brings to the forefront a variety of innovative and breathtaking astronomic functions.  In envisioning this masterpiece for Ulysse Nardin, the ever-ingenious Ludwig Oeschlin sought a wristwatch that expressed the influence of both Sun and Moon over the Earth. Word of an Omega Ploprof dive watch reissue was exciting 2009 news to me, because like many sports watch fans, Omega’s legendary 1970’s dive timepiece has always fascinated me.  I was therefore delighted to see it front and center at Omega’s Baselworld 2009 exhibit, as bold and distinctive as the original, yet with considerably enhanced water resistance over the 600 meter original, and bearing within its monocoque case Omega’s brilliant manufacture 8500 caliber movement with the Co-Axial EscapementContinue Reading… »
