Corum Romvlvs Tourbillon Watch
Posted on September 30th, 2009 No comments
Back in November of 2008, I shared a few thoughts on the Corum Romvlvs Perpetual Calendar watch, praising its elegant design and fine complication. I concluded the blog by opining that it would be an excellent platform for other prestigious complications at a later date. Happily, nearly a year later Corum has done just that and revealed a stunning new Romvlvs watch starring that most famous complication of all: the tourbillon. Passing by the CORUM booth at Baselworld 2009, I was immediately drawn in by a striking new timepiece that seemed to propel the delightful Golden Bridge watch boldly into the 21st century. Stopping for a closer look, my initial interest was more than confirmed: the new Corum Ti Bridge watch retains all the horological fascination of the legendary Corum baton movement, while presenting lovers of haute horlogerie with an elegant design statement that is thoroughly contemporary and extremely stylish. Legibility is the declared objective of one of Corum’s newly announced Basel 2009 models–the Admiral’s Cup Chronograph 50 LHS. Enlarged two millimeters over the Admirals’ Cup Competition 48, this model should be a real delight for fans of mega-sized luxury watches–and yes, the “miniature clock” size certainly doesn’t hurt the ability to read the time! Corum Golden Bridge Watch To Appear In Titanium At Baselworld 2009
Posted on February 18th, 2009 1 comment
New from Swiss watchmaker Corum in 2009, will be a titanium version of its brilliant Golden Bridge timepiece. While not a major change–more of a theme on a variation–the titanium case ideally suits the beauty and almost ethereal “lightness” of the Golden Bridge watch, with its hand-wound baton movement seeming to float in space. Corum Romulus Perpetual Calendar: The Most Complex Romulus Watch Yet
Posted on November 25th, 2008 No comments
Since its recent revival, the Romulus watch collection has been one of my favorites from the house of Corum. I love the stately, deeply engraved Roman figures in the bezel, and the classic, luxurious overall impression these models give. With the introduction of its Romulus Perpetual Calendar, Corum has upped the ante of horological complexity, and produced what is in my opinion the finest Romulus thus far. Continue Reading… » -

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games aren’t just about Omega ambassador Michael Phelps and his record-setting gold medal haul. On Sunday, another athlete sponsored by a Swiss watch brand had his moment of glory.I am referring to sailor and Corum watch ambassador Ben Ainslie, 31, who with his gold medal victory (his third at successive Olympic Summer Games) has vaulted into the historic position of “the greatest British sailor of all time”. Basel 2008: Corum Romvlvs Chronograph- A Fine Mix Of Classicism, Modern Size, And Distinctive Corum Style
Posted on June 6th, 2008 No comments
For 2008, an attractive chronograph model has joined Corum’s elegant Romvlvs Collection. The new Romvlvs Chronograph maintains an very balanced look, with its clean two-counter layout and date display at six o’clock. At 44mm, this timepiece is not for the skimpy wristed, but seeing how popular large watches are right now, that should not be an issue for many. More importantly, the fit and finish of this Corum watch are impressive Continue Reading… » -

Ulysse Nardin And Corum Sapphire Tourbillon Watches
Posted on March 21st, 2008 2 comments
Legendary horological master Christophe Claret has long been a quiet but immensely respected force in haute horlogerie–known for his incredible tourbillons, minute repeaters, and automata work, he has supplied brilliant technical solutions to a number of the world’s finest watch brands (including Girard-Perregaux, Ulysse Nardin, Corum, and others). Christophe Claret was also the star watchmaker that Harry Winston Rare Timepieces chose to collaborate with on “No.4″ of their spectacular Opus watch series. Claret even has his own ultra-exclusive haute horlogerie brand–Jean Dunand–which he co-created with Thierry Oulevay. With that as a brief introduction, some of the master’s most amazing realizations are tourbillon movements executed with transparent sapphire bridges. Two companies who have collaborated with Monsieur Claret to produce incredible tourbillons of this type, are Ulysse Nardin and Corum.
The Ulysse Nardin Royal Blue Tourbillon watch brings Ulysse Nardin’s characteristic color–blue–to the forefront, with sapphire bridges of the same hue. The use of various saturations of synthetic sapphire, allow this blue theme to emphasize and magnify the beauty of the gear train and the flying tourbillon. A sparkling diamond and sapphire dial flange (rehaut) sets off this spectacular execution perfectly.
Equally magnificent, the Corum Billionaire Tourbillon also employs a sapphire bridge movement to create an incredible visual effect. As its name implies, this Corum watch is wildly opulent, being an incredible achievement of fine jewelry as well as watchmaking. This extremely exclusive watch series radiates incredible splendor with an extensive setting of diamonds, or combination of diamonds and sapphires.
