• Mere Request Gets Former Russian President Vladimir Putin To Gift His Blancpain Watch

Blancpain, Vladimir PutinIs that all I needed to do? Just ask? Well apparently that was all that Russian weapons factory worker Viktor Zagaevsky needed to do to get a new (for him) Blancpain wrist watch. Russia loves its former Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, and he spends a good deal of his time touring around the country. While visiting the weapons factory recently, Putin was stopped on his way out. In a ballsy gesture Zagaevsky asked for something as a souvenir to remember Putin’s visit. Putin is commonly beloved in his country and tends to draw much fanfare. Apparently taken back by the request, Putin simply asked what the blue collar metal worker wanted. Who reportedly responded with “how about your watch?” Continue Reading… »

  • Takin’ It To the Tweet!

Posted on July 21st, 2009 Foran No comments

Ivanka TrumpIt seems the latest celebrity obsession is Tweeting about themselves! Ashton Kutcher caused a near meltdown of social media site Twitter when he challenged Larry King of CNN to see who could get a million Twitter followers first. Ashton won, and continues to tweet about his day to day happenings, photos of his wife, and about charitable causes he feels passionately about.

Isn’t it curious in this day and age of paparazzi becoming stalkarazzi, and celebs claiming their privacy is endlessly invaded, that they would become hooked on Twitter? Sending out messages about themselves, essentially BEGGING to be followed? Is this their way of controlling the situation, or is it ultimately narcissism? Continue Reading… »

Once again this year, Sir Elton John, and luxury brand Chopard, paired up to host the White Tie and Tiara Ball to benefit the Elton John Aids Foundation. Elton John and Chopard have a long history together: He and Chopard co-President Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele are longtime friends and together have raised nearly $45 million dollars for the charity, through these events.

As the theme of this year’s ball was “Contemporary Art”, Elton John and David Furnish transformed the grounds of their Windsor mansion into an open air art gallery and sculpture garden. Sandra Bullock wears Gurhan at the MTV Movie AwardsFrom RomCom to Rom Dram?

Sandra Bullock has had a very successful career, playing leading ladies in romantic comedies. How is it then, with her new movie The Proposal about to be released, can she declare that she HATES romantic comedies???? Isn’t that her bread and butter? Her claim to fame? Her next leading role? Au contraire says Bullock.

In her new movie The Proposal, Sandra Bullock plays a Canadian born book editor living in the US, who faces deportation because of her immigration status. Her character quickly decides to remedy the situation, by marrying her assistant, played by Ryan Reynolds, who she has tormented professionally for years. Their characters start out hating one another, and end up falling madly in love. Sound funny? PLEASE don’t call it a comedy! Bullock feels it is a romantic drama, reminiscent of films from the 1930s and 1940s. Romance? Drama? Call it what you like, but the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock will result in box office gold. Continue Reading… »

Orlando Bloom's Ref. 1655 Rolex Explorer III’m not the sort of person who gets his jollies from keeping up with what celebrities are wearing, doing, or thinking.  However, because I love watches, I do tend to notice what others wear in this category–the famous included.  Along with such WIS (”Watch Idiot Savant”) extraordinaires as John Mayer and Eric Clapton, actor Orlando Bloom has proven that when it comes to fine or unusual Rolex timepieces–the obsession is hardcore. • 2009 Costume Institute Gala

Posted on May 7th, 2009 Foran 2 comments

Costume Institute Gala: Jessica Alba in Van Cleef & ArpelsFashion and Hollywood came together this week to celebrate the 2009 Costume Institute Gala. The annual event celebrates the opening of a new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and this year’s theme was Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion. The exhibit illustrates fashion’s contribution and influence on popular culture over the years, and the gala saw designers and their muses celebrating hand in hand.

The Costume Institute Gala is a veritable who’s who, and who’s WEARING whom event, and is considered to be THE fashion event of the season. Many celebrities are accompanied by the designer who has created their ensemble (perhaps hoping they were in fact the Muse!) Typically at this event, designers tend to favor edgy, over the top couture, and yes, some even look downright costumey. For all of the playfulness and daring in the designs, the jewelry seems to present the serious and glamorous side of couture. Where celebrities may be cautious on a red carpet or at a premiere, there are no such holds barred at this event. In terms of jewelry, it is more like the Academy Awards, meets the Super Bowl of Fashion, meets the Cover of Vogue!

Some time ago, images of Russian president Dmitry Medvedev wearing a yellow gold Breguet Classique moonphase watch lit up the luxury blogosphere.  Pundits pontificated upon how Medvedev, who apparently earns quite a modest salary, acquired the funds to purchase such a high-stepping example of haute horlogerie.  Well, buckle your seatbelts, because the photo here will surely rekindle the electronic chitter-chatter.  Peeking out from the cuffs of Mr. Medvedev’s black suit this time is one of the world’s finest luxury dive watches–the lovely, limited edition Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver in 18K white gold.   Continue Reading… »
