  • Ulysse Nardin Lady Diver Starry Night Watch

Posted on September 11th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Ulysse Nardin Lady Diver Starry NightA beautiful addition to the Ulysse Nardin Lady Diver watch collection is the Lady Diver Starry Night.  Few of the dreamy names given to luxury wristwatches are as apt as this one, and when you look at the dial, it’s very clear indeed–just like a beautiful night sky!  In this instance, the “sky” is soleil-finished metal or white mother of pearl dial and the twinkling stars are 27 round brilliant diamonds set in a free-form pattern all around it.    Continue Reading… »

  • Blancpain 500 Fathoms Watch No. 1/1 For Only Watch 09

Posted on August 21st, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Blancpain 500 Fathoms No. 1/1 for Only Watch '09There’s nothing like a noble cause to stimulate the creativity of luxury watch brands.  I’m making reference, of course, to the annual Only Watch auction, which stars some exceptional and one-off timepieces from a spectrum of Switzerland’s finest–all of which are going to be auctioned off next month for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.  One of the most interesting to me from this year’s crop–at least in the sport-themed genre–comes from Blancpain. • Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Watches With 8500 Movement Set To Challenge Rolex’s Datejust

Posted on August 19th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

18K Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 8500The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronometer is a luxury timepiece that is really growing on me.  While it’s always been a good watch that has seen a lot of popularity among Omega fans, this year represents a new high point for the Aqua Terra–and people are talking about it. What’s the reason, you ask?  A very sharp yet modest redesign that wraps itself around Omega’s sensational in-house 8500 caliber movement. Continue Reading… »

  • The Omega Seamaster Ploprof Watch Redeems Michael Phelps’ Dignity (Sorta) At FINA ‘09

Posted on August 5th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Rosolino and Phelps wearing Omega Ploprof watchesWhat do you get when you squeeze two world class male swimmers on a tiny white Vespa?  A decidedly strange photo op for one of the world’s most incredible dive watches!  Omega’s super-impressive Seamaster Professional Ploprof 1200M watch, which I blogged about back in March (click here for the details), showed up on the wrists of a beaming Michael Phelps and Massimiliano Rosolino, as the two Omega ambassadors hammed it up in matching white helmets for the press at the 13th FINA World Championships in Rome.   Continue Reading… »

  • Paul Picot Technograph Discotime: A Chronograph Watch With Spice

Posted on July 8th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Paul Picot Technograph DiscotimeWith chronograph watches having the popularity that they do among timepiece aficionados, it can be a challenge for a watch brand to come up with a concept that catches the eye and stands out amongst the crowd.  That said, I think the small house of Paul Picot in Le Noirmont, Switzerland has succeeded in doing just that with their colorful and technically interesting Technograph Discotime watch.   Continue Reading… »

  • Jaquet Droz Ceramic Watches Embody Individualistic Elegance

Posted on June 26th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Jaquet Droz Quantieme Perpetuel CeramiqueIt’s neat to see what Jaquet Droz has done with ceramics.  While most brands (Hublot and IWC, for example) have gone the purely sports-based route when using this fascinating and somewhat Darth Vader-esque material, Jaquet Droz has held to their own successful theme of individualistic elegance. My favorite of JD’s ceramic cased watches is the just-announced Quantieme Perpetuel Ceramique, which has to be one of the most strikingly original complicated dress watches ever created.   ( Click here to read an article on it) Continue Reading… »

TAG Heuer Monaco 24 Concept For aficionados of fine timepieces, its impossible not to admire the expansive strides TAG Heuer has made in the luxury watch arena.    Quality and innovation just keep getting better and better, and its very clear the brand wants to be taken seriously as a leading player in the  luxury-sport category.  An exhibit that grabbed my collar hard at Baselworld 2009 in March was their race car inspired Monaco 24 Concept Chronograph. • Blancpain L-Evolution Watches Take Blancpain In A Contemporary New Direction

Posted on March 28th, 2009 Adam Keith No comments

Blancpain, one of the Swiss haute horlogerie brands most associated with classicism, has steered boldly into a more contemporary direction with the introduction of the L-evolution watch collection.  One of the biggest attention-getters at Blancpain’s exhibition at Baselworld 2009, these models reflect the artisanal workmanship we’ve come to expect from Blancpain but in a refreshing new format, along with new in-house movements developed from the 13RO “8-day” caliber.  The outstanding features of these movements include a free-sprung titanium balance with proprietary gold adjustment weights, and a system of three spring barrels for an impressive power reserve. • Omega Ploprof Watch Is Back In 2009; Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea, Move Over!

Word of an Omega Ploprof dive watch reissue was exciting 2009 news to me, because like many sports watch fans, Omega’s legendary 1970’s dive timepiece has always fascinated me.  I was therefore delighted to see it front and center at Omega’s Baselworld 2009 exhibit, as bold and distinctive as the original, yet with considerably enhanced water resistance over the 600 meter original, and bearing within its monocoque case Omega’s brilliant manufacture 8500 caliber movement with the Co-Axial Escapement.  Continue Reading… »
