An interesting new Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean watch is in the offing from Omega. According to preliminary sources, the timepiece features a bezel in which the graduated ring is crafted from a specialized ceramic-metal hybrid material described as “Liquidmetal”. Apparently composed of titanium, copper, nickel and beryllium in addition to significant amounts of zirconium oxide, the Liquidmetal bezel has a very attractive and rich appearance, combined with superior shatterproof qualities and excellent resistance to environmental factors–superior traits indeed for a timepiece that is both a luxury object, and an instrument with true capabilities for diving and sports use. With their rugged, virtually indestructible construction, legible no-B.S. dials and alluring size and mass, dive watches are some of the coolest sports timepieces out there. And among comparative newcomers to the scene, few have the presence and pleasing originality of the Bell & Ross BR 02 1000M. While I know it won’t unseat such smashingly popular classics as the Rolex Submariner or Omega Seamaster, there’s no question this head-turner is a real option for those wanting to escape the established dive watch paradigm.
