Tag Heuer Finally Makes The Monaco V4 Watch, And Offers The First for Charity At the “Only Watch” Auction

It was 2004 when Tag Heuer first announced the Monaco V4 concept watch. What was unique was the movement and the automatic winding mechanism. Complications merely included the time and a dial that was open-worked (as part of the movement). The Monaco V4 concept watch was the first ever “belt driven” movement – and is still the only such movement to operate in the way it does. It is gimmicky sure, but it looks very cool, and still images don’t really do it justice. Another unique aspect of the watch it’s the automatic winding system. Instead of having a rotor that oscillates, it has a weight that moves in a linear fashion up and down – just like a piston almost. That movement acts to move gears that wind the mainspring. I don’t know exactly how elegant it looks in reality, but it is certainly a very interesting concept, and now reality. Continue Reading… » -
Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Diver Limited Edition Watch Thoughts
Posted on June 5th, 2009 No comments
Check out this candid shot of this rare watch on my wrist. At first glance the Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Diver Limited Edition watch might as well be an Oris or any other midrange diving watch. The bright orange colors, sporty but mainstream font for the numerals, and carbon fiber face make it look like just another nice watch in the crowd. Upon closer inspection you realize that the watch is no basic Swiss watch, but instead an Ulysse Nardin, and look closer to see that the various windows reveal a perpetual calendar complication. There are a few, but not many mechanical luxury perpetual calendar diver watches, and this timepiece joins a small club. Continue Reading… » -
Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos Regulator Limited Edition Clock For Dunhill

This is the newest luxury way to welcome art deco into your home, and combines the efforts of Swiss master watch maker Jaeger LeCoultre and British mod-retro men’s accessory maker A. Dunhill. While the standard Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos is a mere clock, this Atmos Regulator is a showpiece. A regulator is a clock that has a different dial for the hours and minutes, with the minutes dial being larger. The clock also features a month calendar with day/night indicator, 24 hour indicator, and a chic looking moonphase. The partial skeletonization of the clock face makes for an impressive sight, especially given the symmetrical design of the suspended movement. Continue Reading… » -

The Omega Seamaster Watch is almost as much of a star of the new generation James Bond movies as Mr. Daniel Craig himself. Right up there with the Aston Martin car and the Walther PPK pistol, this Omega diver’s timepiece has become inseparable from the image–and technical arsenal–of the world’s most famous spy. Hublot Watches And The Triumphal March Of Limited Editions
Posted on July 25th, 2008 No comments
Hublot watches–usually the Big Bang models–have appeared in a staggering array of limited editions. The only other watch I can think of that can rival it in that regard is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore with its continual parade of models dedicated to athletes, famous locales, and race car drivers. Annoying to some and fashionably fresh to others, the trend for limited edition timepieces just keeps growing, indicating that there are indeed a great variety of luxury watch buyer niches, each of whom enjoys being catered to.
