The supremely classical A. Lange & Sohne 1815 watch has undergone a subtle enlargement for 2009. While the previous incarnation of the 1815 measured a modest 36mm in diameter, this new edition is aimed more squarely at modern tastes with its 40mm size. A. Lange & Sohne will be offering the revised 1815 watch in rose, yellow or white gold, as well as platinum. Inspired by historic Lange pocket watches, the solid silver dials display a "railroad" minute track and subtle Arabic figures. Sapphire crystals are fitted to both front and back.
Animating the 2009 A. Lange & Sohne 1815 watch is a new manufacture caliber, which has been specifically conceived to fill the 40mm case. Designated as the calibre L051.1, this hand-wound 30.6mm movement proudly showcases all the traditional elements which have made A. Lange & Sohne an exemplar of exceptional German haute horlogerie. Such features include German silver plates with a ribbed finish, fire-blued screws, a hand-engraved balance cock with an screw-adjustable balance and a shapely, beveled swan neck spring. Five of the movement jewels are borne in gold chatons, which are secured to the plate via a triad of blued screws. Power reserve of the calibre L051.1 is 55 hours.
The A. Lange & Sohne 1815 40mm watch in each of its variations is completed by a hand-stitched strap in crocodile leather. A massive gold or platinum buckle with the Lange signature provides a secure and elegant closure upon the wrist.
