2009 Jaquet Droz Ladies Watches: L'Heure Celeste, L'Heure Selenite and Date Astrale
By Adam Keith, Associate Timepiece Editor for ViaLuxe-

Swiss watchmaker Jaquet Droz expands its collection of exquisite luxury timepieces with three exclusive models for women.  Two of these novelties present beautiful and breathtakingly creative examples of diamond setting as their centerpiece, while a third model employs the subtle loveliness of mother of pearl to highlight a poetic and mechanically clever retrograde date indicator.

An addition to the Hommage Paris 1785 Collection, the Jaquet Droz L'Heure Celeste watch features a 41mm case wrought from 18-karat white or red gold.  The off-centered hour display which has become a near-signature of the Manufacture Jaquet Droz again comes into play, amidst a magnificent gold dial whose raised and pave-set globular figures suggest planets and heavenly bodies in the night sky.  The unusual three dimensional quality of this dial has been brought out to its fullest by a special highly curved sapphire crystal which mates directly with the case band.    Animating the L'Heure Celeste watch is the self-winding Jaquet Droz Calibre 2653, whose fine decorations and 22K gold winding mass appear through a sapphire crystal caseback.   Balance frequency is 21,600 vibrations per hour; thanks to a system of double spring barrels, power reserve is a generous 68 hours.

The moon and star-studded night sky inspire the nocturnal beauty of the Jaquet Droz L'Heure Selenite watch, which also joins the Hommage Paris 1785 collection.  Presented in a polished 18-karat white gold case measuring 39mm in diameter, this model's dial presents a sublime vision of jeweled splendor.  A background of pave-set black diamonds--interspersed with variously sized white round brilliants--frames the crescent-shaped mother of pearl "moon" and the off-centered onyx section which contains polished white gold hour and minute hands.  The L'Heure Selenite also utilizes the self-winding Jaquet Droz Calibre 2653 .

Precious gemstones and watchmaking complications both star in the final member of this precious trio.  The Jaquet Droz Date Astrale watch showcases a 39mm case in 18-karat white gold with round brilliant diamonds set on both the bezel and case lugs.  A white or black mother of pearl dial presents a charming pairing of off-centered hours and minutes with a long, semi-circular date window.  A single sparkling diamond, advances in a precise increments every 24 hours.  At the final day of the month, the diamond indicator shoots through its arc in the blink of an eye back to its starting position at "1"--a motion evocative of a shooting star coursing through the infinite reaches of space.   The caseback of the Date Astrale timepiece features a sapphire crystal window, through which appears the richly decorated Jaquet Droz 2650R self-winding movement.  A 22K gold central rotor efficiently powers the two spring barrels with enough energy for 68 hours of running time.

These Jaquet Droz ladies watches are produced in "Numerus Clausus" limited editions of eight watches per variation.  Alligator straps with a hand-rolled edge and ardillon buckles in 18-karat gold elegantly and securely connect each timepiece to the wrist.  Water resistance of all three models is 30 meters.
