The Blancpain 500 Fathoms GMT watch is a dynamic new development of the manufacture's sporting collection, which began with the legendary "Fifty Fathoms". A progression in terms of diving technology and watchmaking innovation, the 500 Fathoms GMT showcases Blancpain's new self-winding Calibre 5215 movement within an imposing new brushed titanium case offering water impermeability to a depth of 1,000 meters.
The Blancpain 500 Fathoms GMT watch measures 48mm in diameter. Stylistically bold for its extreme dimensions yet supremely functional, this durable and precisely crafted housing is equipped with a screw-down winding crown and an automatic decompression valve for the release of accumulated helium during saturation dives. The sapphire crystal with its cambered edge is well-protected by the ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel. This titanium bezel, completed by an aggressive knurled pattern at its edge to facilitate a slip-free grip, features a convex sapphire material atop the luminous graduated scale. The black dial offers outstanding visibility in the murkiest water or for night dives, thanks to a radiating pattern of Arabic figures and trapeze-shaped markers with generous amount of luminous material; a scale at the dial perimeter allows for the read-off of the second time zone. Hour, minute, 24-hour, and second hand also employ ample amounts of luminous material to make legibility almost effortless in any circumstance.
Without sacrificing the necessary strength for the robust 1000M water resistance, Blancpain has equipped the screw-down caseback of the 500 Fathoms GMT watch with a sapphire crystal exhibition window. Through it, the user can admire the manufacture Calibre 5215, which is engineered to offer an appealing balance between haute horlogerie craftsmanship and robust performance. The caliber, which stands at 6.85mm in height, presents sophisticated horological solutions to include a proprietary system of micrometric balance regulation screws that allow exceptional fine tuning for the rate. Three barrels coupled in a series assure an exceptional power reserve of 5 days (120 hours). In addition to circular graining on the mainplate and chamfered edges, the Calibre 5215 shows off a distinctive "Cotes paraboliques" decoration on the bridges as a mark of its exclusive heritage. In total, the caliber comprises 247 individual parts.
The Blancpain 500 Fathoms GMT watch is completed by a rubber lined 24mm canvas strap and a triple-deployant folding clasp. Each timepiece is delivered in a specially-designed presentation box designed to resist rough conditions and water intrusion.
