At 44mm in diameter, the Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph XL represents an ideal companion for those seeking a thoroughbred and elegantly contemporary chronograph timepiece with potent presence.
Crafted from stainless steel, the Glashutte Senator Chronograph XL watch case displays a fine and lustrous polish. This elegant finishing highlights the superb craftsmanship which the Saxon manufacture is known for among its fans, and also creates an appealing contrast with the matte black dial with its angled tachymeter flange. To coincide with the 44mm case, the bi-compax chronograph arrangement of 30-minute counter and continuous small seconds has been appropriately enlarged; visibility is excellent and a harmonious sense of proportion is maintained. The design of the Senator watch case retains its classical proportions, and the dial also displays the characteristic signatures of Glashutte Original, including a central chronograph hand with a counterpoise in the form of the double-G brand logo.
Turning the Senator chronograph XL on its backside reveals a familiar and much appreciated sight. Through a sapphire crystal exhibition window, the robust yet refined Caliber 39-34 appears, resplendent with traditional Saxon watchmaking amenities which include a sunburst pattern on the winding wheels, Glashutte ribbing on the bridges, and a hand-polished swan-neck fine adjustment. The impressive central rotor is skeletonized and bears the Glashutte Original insignia, as well as a 21-karat mass on its outer edge. Not just a beautiful touch, this latter feature adds critical inertia to the rotor motion--enhancing winding efficiency. Power reserve of the caliber is 40 hours. A rapid balance frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour enables the chronograph function to record independent time intervals with a precision to 1/8th second.
A convex sapphire crystal elegantly protects the dial of the Glashutte Original Senator chronograph XL watch, which like its smaller 40mm sibling, is water resistant to 50 meters. A finely crafted alligator leather strap and an adjustable triple folding clasp in stainless steel provide a secure and sleek fit to a range of wrist sizes.
