Panerai Special Editions 2008: Luminor 1950 Pangaea Submersible Depth Gauge Watch

The Panerai Luminor 1950 Pangaea Submersible Depth Gauge watch is an exciting addition to the Panerai Special Editions 2008 collection.  Featuring a mechanical movement in conjunction with an electronic depth gauge, this Panerai dive watch carries on the historical brand's innovation in the area of professional timekeeping instruments.  

Crafted from titanium, the case measures 47mm in diameter, and incorporates a ratcheted, unidirectional rotating bezel graduated for the calculation of diving times.  A convex, 3mm thick sapphire crystal is fitted.  The dial is a dark blue and features bold Superluminova-coated hands and indications; the small seconds are shown at 9 o'clock while an outer scale showcases the depth gauge, calculated to correspond to the 120-meter water resistance of the watch.  Also indicated is the status of the battery power for the gauge.  

The Panerai OP XV caliber animates the Panerai Luminor 1950 Pangaea Submersible Depth Gauge watch.  The 21-jewel self-winding caliber has earned a COSC-chronometer certificate; its chief technical characteristics include a 28,800 vph balance frequency, an Incabloc shock absorber, and 42-hour power reserve.  A unique feature of the movement is the battery-powered electronic module that controls the depth gauge; this gauge is actuated using the pushpiece on the side of the case at 10 o'clock.  Of note, each gauge has earned an individual certificate from METAS (Swiss Federal Office of Metrology and Accreditation).

500 examples of this Panerai Luminor watch will be manufactured.  In addition to the rubber strap which each watch comes installed with, each 1950 Pangaea Submersible Depth Gauge timepiece is supplied with a secondary dive strap, a tool to change the straps, and a steel screwdriver.
