SIHH 2008: Panerai-Ferrari Special Editions 2008 1/8th Second Chronograph Watch, FER 00025

The Panerai-Ferrari Special Editions 2008 1/8th Second Chronograph watch (Ref. FER 00025) features a cushion-shaped brushed and polished stainless steel case, and a black dial which shows off yellow accents and the Scuderia Ferrari logo at 12; the rehaut features a tachymeter scale for the calculation of average speeds.  Both crown and chronograph pushpieces have a knurled grid pattern, and are decorated with the Ferrari prancing horse logo.  Sapphire crystals are fitted to both front and back, and water resistance is rated at 100 meters.

This Panerai watch features a complex chronograph function, which includes a split-seconds mechanism, and a foudroyante "thundering seconds" complication; this latter function is featured on the subdial at 10.  There, a hand completes a single revolution each second, stopping in 8 extremely precise steps along the way.  Thus, when the chronograph is stopped, this hand indicates elapsed time to within the nearest 1/8th of second.  The movement which drives these prestigious functions is the self-winding Panerai Panerai OP XXI caliber, which features a balance wheel frequency of 28,800 vph, and a power reserve of 42 hours. The Ferrari prancing horse is proudly displayed on the rotor.

Panerai has fitted this Special Edition timepiece with a rubber strap that features an incised Ferrari logo.  A supplementary strap in calfskin is also supplied; this luxurious strap has contrasting stitching and an inside part in yellow caiman leather.
