The prestigious Swiss watchmaking house of Breguet has unveiled its entry for the 2009 Only Watch charity auction. Piece No. 1 in a series of just seven, the Breguet Classique travel clock features a body and handle in solid 950 sterling silver and hobnail-decorated gilt plates on both front and back. In addition to the time on an engine-turned guilloche silver dial with blued Breguet hands, the clock also offers a thermometer with a blued serpentine hand. Giving life to the clock's functions is the hand-wound 17-jewel Breguet 564/1 caliber, whose features include a monometallic balance and lever escapement.
The silver Breguet Classique travel clock will be auctioned in Monaco on September 24, 2009, along with a number of other unique and limited edition timepieces from numerous elite watch manufacturers. The entries are auctioned without a reserve price, and all funds realized from the sale go to the Monegasque Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This organization is involved internationally with research efforts for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder mainly affecting boys which causes eventual death through atrophication of muscles related to the heart and respiratory organs.
