Cartier will join an elite cadre of watch manufacturers who produce one or more movements which feature the prestigious Geneva Seal. Cartier's new movement, designated as the 9452 MC caliber, will debut in April at the Salon International de Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). This manually wound caliber, which features a tourbillon, has been designed and assembled in Cartier's new Geneva workshop.
Originally conceived in 1886 by the Geneva watchmaking guilds to define and protect the quality of their products and techniques, the Geneva Seal is recognized as the most prestigious official distinction in the world of watchmaking. It defines 12 absolute quality criteria which govern constructive and decorative standards. Beyond this, to obtain the Seal, a movement must be mechanical, be assembled and adjusted in the Canton of Geneva, and have obtained official designation from the Bureau de Contrôle Facultatif des Montres de l'Etat de Genève. This office is supervised by a commission composed of individuals appointed by the cantonal government.
