A highly precise battery-powered quartz movement or a self-winding mechanical movement animates the Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch. The small model is equipped with a quartz movement, while the 42mm watch uses a finely adjusted and decorated automatic mechanism, equipped with a date display and sweep seconds. The medium Cartier Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch, due to its unisex design, can be obtained in either a quartz-powered version which displays hours and minutes only, or a self-winding model which uses the same movement as the 42mm watch.
