BASELWORLD 2007 Day 4: Hot Horlogerie vs. Hot Haute Horlogerie

Apr 19, 2007

Ok so this isn't what I would consider the pinnacle of Haute Holgerie, but I do believe it is newsworthy. At BASELWORLD 2007 Paris Hilton introduced her latest venture with her partner Parlux. Please welcome the Paris Hilton watch.
In typical Paris Hilton fashion, she held a press release in Basel, and the first thing she said was she was happy because "she has never been to Zurich before". Oh boy....somebody forgot to tell her she was in Basel. The Paris Hilton watch collection has an average pricepoint of $200 and will be readily available soon.
She also happened to be an hour late for her press conference which is not a good considering she is selling products to help you tell time. She later had a party our front of the main pavilion annoying many Swiss with loud techno music.
In other celebrity news, also gracing us with her presence was Natalia Vodianova, the current Calvin Klein model (flavor of the season) who was with Icon Nick Hayek peddling yet another $200 watch. They officially launched the Calvin Klein watch collection at Basel and let us know that they will be available soon, with many models (watches) and colors to choose from.
Now here is an update with more of a horological angle. We went into Chopard to see their latest collections and we were amazed by some of their latest watches. I really liked their new L.U.C Tech Twist. This is a limited edition piece with the L.U.C 96 TB base and a satin brushed dial. Aesthetically alluring, the Tech Twist offers off-set seconds and a 65 hour power reserve.
While the Tech Twist was great, its always special to see one of a kind pieces, whether it be watches or jewelry. The time I got to see was a hybrid.
Mark Hruska, President of Chopard North America, brought out an all diamond ladies watch that had to be 60 carats. This watch was a one of a kind piece with every Diamond being hand selected by Karin Scheufele. To our surprise Madame Scheufele came out and actually modeled it for us. Included a few photos from the day.
Enjoy!
