Baselworld 2009: Chronoswiss Tachoscope Watch For Audi 100th Anniversary
By Adam Keith, Associate Timepiece Editor for ViaLuxe-

The Chronoswiss Tachoscope is an exclusive new luxury watch created in conjunction with Audi Design for the 100th Anniversary of luxury car manufacturer Audi.  Displaying a distinctive dial wherein only the minute and stopwatch seconds hands are mounted at the center, this limited edition Chronoswiss timepiece features a number of subtle car-themed details, and pays homage to the timing instruments of the Auto Union races that took place during the 1930's.

The complex 26-part case measures measures 42.80 millimeters.  Manufactured from 18-karat white gold or platinum and displays a number of Audi Design details, including strap attachments with a patented Autobloc feature and special screws.  A gearwheel serves as the inspiration for the Audi-style winding crown, which features a push-piece to activate the mono-pusher chronograph function.  Crafted from sterling silver in the white gold model, and genuine enamel in the platinum version, the dial reflects clarity of purpose and functional elegance.  The Arabic numerals on the hour subdial, minutes scale and subsidiary seconds are printed with a distinctive font created by Audi.  A tachymeter scale at the periphery of the dial allows measurement of a variety of elapsed times, to a precision of 1/6th second.

The Chronoswiss Tachoscope watch is animated by the Chronoswiss Calibre C.125, an exclusive development of the historical Enicar 165 caliber.  Featuring distinctive constructive elements, including a unique central chronograph wheel mounted on ball bearings, a mono-pusher mechanism for the chronograph, and regulator hours, the C.125 joins the ranks of classical chronograph calibers whose start, stop, and return to zero sequences are controlled by a prestigious column-wheel.  Frequency of the balance is 21,600 vibrations per hour, and power reserve is 35 hours.  A sapphire window in the engraved commemorative caseback reveals the finely decorated structures of the movement.  The Audi-designed central winding mass is engraved with the Audi rings, and the milestone years 1909 and 2009.

The Chronoswiss Tachoscope watch will be limited to a series of 65 pieces in 18K white gold, and 35 in platinum.  Each watch is fitted with a hand-sewn alligator strap, and supplied with a lacquered black presentation case containing a watchmaking magnifier and a screwdriver to enable strap changes.  The Tachoscope is water resistant to 30 meters.
