The Admiral’s Cup line from Corum is one of their strongest lines, with a purely iconic dodecahedral case and a boat racing heritage that cannot be shaken even as the line slowly shakes the “Admiral’s Cup Race” character from the Admiral’s Cup line. The collection is now an all purpose boat racing watch accessory, which is a good thing for the attractive timepiece. The new Challenge 44 Black & Gold comes in a 44mm wide case with a gold bezel and dial accents, with the rest of the case in black or gray PVD steel. The black model will limited to 188 pieces while the gray model will have just 128 pieces.
Notice that the dial design continues to refine on the watch series with the chronograph being functional and retaining the nautical compass look for the subsidiary seconds dial. The typical flags on the dial continue to lose emphasis as they are loosely outlined on the chapter ring of the dial. Notice that the metallic gray dial is matched to the gray PVD case, while the same is true with the black version. Inside the watch is the automatic caliber CO 753 chronograph movement that is COSC Chronometer certified.
The PVD application on the watch is particularly hard at 1300 vickers and the complimenting colors on the dial are well-done with generous amount of 18k red gold that does not look “over done.” Attached to the Corum Admiral’s Cup Challenge 44 Black & Gold is black vulcanized rubber strap. Not quite a serious diver’s watch with 100 meters of water resistance but capable of taking a bit of beating – at the very least it can absorb the abuse of a rough yacht race.
