Signatures of Luxury Brands: Roberto Coin, Gurhan, Verragio, Hearts on Fire, David Yurman
Creating legendary luxury jewelry - even iconographic jewelry - means establishing a signature style. The brand name is the first and foremost important signature of every luxury brand. Names like Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Versace are household names even for people who cannot afford to buy those brands. We all know these brands for their ultra chic handbags, shoes and clothing. The second most important signature of a brand is the signature sign such as a signature style, pattern, material, or look.

These brand signatures come to eternally symbolize the brand without even having to see the name of the brand. Perhaps the most signature sign of any luxury brand belongs to Louis Vuitton. His eternal monogram canvas with the three shapes, typically in brown and light brown (though not always, as a multi-colored collection was released), have come to symbolize the ultimate standard luxury handbags. If you have money, you buy a Louis Vuitton monogrammed anything and show it off every day.

Here are other signatures of some of the most prominent and prestigious jewelry brands. Italian jewelry designer Roberto Coin's signature is a hidden ruby or rubellite that touches the skin. Roberto Coin affectionately refers to the ruby red signature as the "ruby red spirit" and ties wearing a ruby to several ancient cultural beliefs about them including that they promote health and longevity, fertility and from being wounded in battle. A ruby with a gold lining is also the Roberto Coin logo.

Gurhan is famously known for his ancient looking, handmade and hand hammered pure 24 karat gold jewelry with its lustrous gleam and aura. Whereas some jewelers may create some pieces or collections of hand hammered jewelry, they will often use diluted forms of gold, such as 14 karat yellow gold or 18 karat yellow gold, Gurhan designs only in 24 karat pure gold and always uses the hand hammered style.

Verragio bridal jewelry is known for its specially patented Lumino setting designed by founder Barry Verragio. This gorgeous and unique center diamond setting cradles the diamond high in the setting, above the rest of the shank, allowing light to strike it at all angles, including from the bottom.

Diamond jeweler Hearts on Fire is the number one authority in the diamond industry because of its brilliant (literally!) signature. Every Hearts on Fire diamond is cut and analyzed at 100x magnification - 10x the global requirement for diamond grading and evaluation. These highly specialized cuts create diamonds that are unlike any other diamond cut by another company. The slightest bit of light illuminates these diamonds to sparkling stars.

Finally, perhaps the most recognizable signature jewelry sign of any company is the cable jewelry by David Yurman. Copied and faked by many around the world, this legendary American jeweler is best known for his twisted cable jewelry. The amazing thing about this luxury jewelry is that with wear and age, the material undergoes a natural oxidation process which causes the material to tarnish in between the cables.

The presence and accuracy of these signature signs are excellent ways to verify the authenticity of a piece because for these luxury companies, no product is complete without the signature sign. However, the only true way to verify authenticity is to buy luxury goods from Authorized Dealers who supply the required paperwork with the purchase of an item.
