The DeWitt Academia Triple Complication GMT watch is a visually and technically striking introduction from this highly exclusive Swiss watchmaker. Animated by a highly refined self-winding mechanical movement and boasting exotically luxurious craftsmanship, this DeWitt timepiece is exemplary for its functional engineering and it high watchmaking craft and creativity.
As is the case with each
DeWitt timepiece, a rich array of details are present to tempt both the sight and touch. The spectacular round Imperial Columns case is crafted from 18K white gold, or palladium, and shows off an extremely complex three - dimensional design which places a premium upon extensive hand finishing, to say nothing of a precise manufacturing process. This remarkable detail is matched by the intricate dials, which feature such stunning materials as brilliantly colored carbon fiber, guilloche-decorated silvered metal, or combinations of black and white pave diamonds.
The manually-wound mechanism inside the DeWitt Academia Triple Complication GMT watch has been refined according to the tenets of the traditional watchmaking craft. Constructed from start to finish by a single DeWitt watchmaker who is responsible for it, the movement has been painstakingly refined with traditional perlage and cotes de Geneve decorations, as well as beveled bridges, and polished screw-settings. This movement features a secondary hour hand which may be set to GMT time or any other secondary time zone, making it extremely useful for travelers. It also has two very interesting aspects --the first is a rotating day/night indicator borne upon a large ruby jewel atop the dial, which is charmingly given a distinct theme to clearly reveal the separation between day and night hours in the secondary time zone. Lastly, it features a highly unusual date display which is a DeWitt premiere -- termed a "Disassociated Date", this mechanism separates the date into both hemispheres of the dial, resulting in great clarity, as well as a highly striking appearance.
The DeWitt Academia Triple
Complication GMT watch is presented in three models. In 18K white gold, this watch features a two-tone dial, with an alternating hobnail and sun-pattern decoration, as well as a day/night indicator with a cityscape motif. Two of the models are available in palladium; the first features a dial with black Cotes de Geneve decor and pave diamonds with a day/night indicator decorated with pave diamonds and sapphires to depict the moon and the sun. The other model reveals a striking sporty aesthetic, with its black and yellow carbon fiber dial, and day/night indicator with a provocatively brilliant red and silver concentric pattern. A textured rubber strap, complete with a DeWitt-signed buckle completes both palladium versions of the Academia Triple Complication GMT watch, while a crocodile strap accompanies the 18K white gold version. DeWitt has warranted each of these Academia watches to be water resistant to 100 meters, and each is fitted with an extremely scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
