The Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph is an appealing new addition to Ebel's celebrated 1911 watch collection. Emblematic of the prestige of the brand, the flowing lines of these timepiece pay homage to the creative spirit of Eugene Blum and Alice Levy, who founded Ebel nearly a century ago. The addition of a chronograph function adds a unique technical appeal that elevate these fine Swiss watches to objects of lasting fascination.
Crafted from stainless steel, and refined with an elegant brushed finish, the case of the Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph watch measures a stately 43mm in diameter. The silver or black dials feature polished baton hour markers, and matching baton hands, both of which are graced with a strip of Superluminova material to aid reading in darkness. A fine balance between the aesthetics of sport and dress, the dial presents its chronograph functions clearly, as well as the day and the date in a small window to the left of the winding crown. To aid in optimizing the chronograph function to the highest degree possible, the bezel is fitted with a tachymeter scale that permits average speeds to be calculated. Like all Ebel 1911 timepieces, the bezel is surrounded by the characteristic screws which have become a signature of this noble collection. A curved sapphire crystal, coated with anti-reflective material on both sides ensures that reading the time is effortless from any angle; the extremely hard nature of the sapphire also provides superb protection from scratches.
The Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph watch is animated by a precise and highly reliable mechanical movement. Based upon the proven ETA-Valjoux 7750 platform, this self-winding mechanism has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours, and offers a rapidly adjustable day and date display. Its chronograph can time short term intervals within 30 minutes, and longer term intervals of up to 12 hours, all with 1/8 second exactitude, thanks to the rapidly beating balance wheel that completes 28,800 alternations each hour. As an additional assurance of this movement's excellent performance, Ebel submits each to the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC). In the COSC facility, each uncased movement must pass 15 days of stringent tests which set specific ranges of performance that must be met over a range of positions and temperature variations. The inscription "Chronometer" on the watch dial proudly asserts that the mechanism ticking inside the watch has indeed come through these examinations with flying colors. The water resistant Ebel 1911 watch case protects this distinguished movement from moisture, to a depth of 100 meters.
In stainless steel, the Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph watch is available with several dial variations, while the steel and 18K gold model is fitted with a silver dial. An elegant bracelet is available in both metal choices, and it features distinguished polished and brushed finishes that highlight the suave contrasts on the case. A highly sporty Ebel rubber strap, or a calfskin alternative, both completed by a stainless steel folding clasp, are also available for the watch and offer their own distinctively attractive appearance.
