Anne Hathaway: Style Transformation

From the days of Princess Diaries to serious dramas like Brokeback Mountain, Anne Hathaway has been the charming underdog. We’ve all seen her grow into a smart, grounded young lady, who dazzles on the red carpet and on the big screen. In her current movie role, she is playing Agent 99 alongside Steve Carrell’s Agent Max Smart in Get Smart. The movie sees her in spy gear, but also glammed up for some undercover operations.

In her own style, Hathaway has had the pleasure of wearing many designers, most notably favoring Armani and Valentino and accessorizing with Fred Leighton and Cartier jewels. Although Hathaway has claimed she struggles with her personal style, we’ve seen her grow into it and come out remarkably.

The Devil Wears Prada could well have been Hathaway’s spotlight on her wonderful transformation, making her a style icon at the age of 25. She had the honor of working with stylist Pat Field, who showed her the magic of fashion – that it is a form of expression. She gained respect from the fashion industry while making that film, as her outfits since then have always packed a punch. At this year’s Oscar’s, Hathaway wore a red Marchesa one shoulder number with Harry Winston diamond drop earrings totaling 10 carats. At the recent MTV Movie Awards, Hathaway wore Cartier earrings and ring, to accessorize her black asymmetrical dress by Sophia Kokosalaki. Last year’s Oscar’s saw Hathaway in a lacy Valentino dress with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. For the current In Style Personal Style issue, Hathaway dressed up in labels like Valentino, Balenciaga Michael Kors and sported a Rolex watch, as well as opening up about her fashion cues as the cover model. She told In Style, “If you're going to be glamorous, it has to be tempered with eccentricity so that it incorporates your own personality. Dressing up is great, but you need a twist.” Great advice from a sweet starlet, and from her fashion choices we can all tell that she takes that advice to heart. Hathaway is currently working on Bride Wars with Kate Hudson, a film about friends whose weddings fall on the same day, and surely, with two lovely ladies as the stars, the fashion will be something to watch out for too.
