At the 2nd annual Ante Up For Africa Poker Tournament which took place on July 2 in Las Vegas, professional poker player John Hennigan from Pennsylvania claimed the top spot, netting $136,860 as well as a specially engraved Corum Romulus watch. However, the biggest winners were the victims in the Darfur region of Sudan, for whom the event raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Inaugurated in 2007, the Ante up for Africa event at the World Series of Poker offers a Texas Hold'em charity game, which noted players and numerous celebrities buy into for $5,000. Proceeds generated by the competition this year went to two organizations--ENOUGH, and Not On Our Watch--who endeavor to raise awareness of the Sudanese situation, and put an end to genocide and other massive atrocities in Darfur and other places through the world infamous for human rights abuses. Participating celebrities included actors Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Ben Affleck, and Adam Sandler, comedians Ray Romano and George Lopez, and athletes Jason Kidd and Charles Barkley.
Corum is the official supplier of bracelets and timepieces for the World Series of Poker tournament.
