Henry Dunay understands something very vital: Peace is always in fashion.
In 2003,
Henry Dunay created the "Dove for Peace" pin - a charity pin to benefit Roots of Peace, a humanitarian organization dedicated to the eradication of landmines and the rehabilitation of lands in war-torn countries, as well as Green Cross International and its American affiliate Global Green USA. The "Dove of Peace pin" was commissioned by the Global Vision for Peace and was auctioned on eBay, some for over $1000. Every pin was accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and the signature of the celebrity.
The pins were worn by numerous celebrities to the 2003 75th Annual Academy Awards. Oscar winners, nominees and attendees alike proudly wore the pin. A partial list of celebrities who wore the pin that night were Adrien Brody (Best Actor that night for "The Pianist"), Nicole Kidman (won Best Actress that night for "The Hours"), Chris Cooper, Daniel Day Lewis (recently won Best Actor this year for his role in There Will Be Blood), Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Marcia Gay Harden, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates and so many more.
Henry Dunay was instructed to design and create a pin that resonated the energy of Pablo Picasso's Dove for Peace, an endeavor he was responsible for creating in the aftermath of World War II. He created the lithograph for The International Peace Congress in Paris in 1949. Dunay created two versions of the "Dove for Peace" pin: one, a limited edition in 18 karat gold worn by the celebrities, and another, in sterling silver. The limited edition version is also available in 18k white gold. While there may not be any more of the limited edition pins still available, the sterling silver one is still available to order via the Global Vision for Peace website.
The pins were an immediate success at the Oscars with USA Today anointing the pin as "the evening's hottest fashion accessory." The New York Times hailed the strong presence of the Henry Dunay pin with a story titled, "The Land of the Oscars, the Home of the Dove."
Global Vision for Peace vowed to direct 100% of the proceeds from the Ebay auctions of the Henry Dunay "Dove for Peace" pin to the organizations.
Just as peace is always in fashion season after season, without a doubt proudly wearing the Henry Dunay "Dove for Peace" pin is, and always will be, in fashion, too.
