Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver has partnered up with the Smiling Children Foundation to support the efforts of the Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting women and young girls in Morocco and Afghanistan. Hublot has created a new Big Bang timepiece specifically for the effort, and a portion of the purchase of each watch will be donated to the Foundation, and its efforts to promote education and combat child labor injustices.
The partnership between Hublot and the Smiling Children Foundation is a natural one. Hublot has always taken great interest in humanitarian issues, particularly those involving children, and has regularly participated directly in such initiatives through its own MDM Foundation. Smiling Children, founded in Switzerland in 2005, has dedicated itself to the plight of young rural girls in Morocco, thousands of which have been taken from their families and forced into servitude or prostitution in cities; the Foundation has devoted itself to reuniting these girls with their families and re-instituting them in the school system. It is also committed to the situation in Afghanistan, where due to Taliban rule, girls have been prohibited from receiving education; with the aid of its patrons, the Foundation has initiated the creation of a school that will educate thousands of Afghan girls aged 6 to 18 years old.
The new Hublot Big Bang watch created for this represents the smallest Big Bang watch yet made. Measuring 38mm in diameter, this feminine Hublot timepiece features a diamond bezel, a white strap and dial, and a distinctive purple seconds hand which echoes the official color of the Smiling Children Foundation. A Foundation logo engraved on the caseback attests to the special nature of this timepiece. "In real terms, each watch sold will make it possible to finance one girl's schooling for a year", says Mr. Biver, who is extremely pleased by the relationship between Hublot and Smiling Children.
