IWC Aquatimer Automatic

Water resistant to 1000 meters, the Aquatimer Automatic is a highly capable professional dive companion which is also perfectly suited to any active lifestyle that enjoys a distinctive informal elegance. Slightly thinner and dressier than its titanium sibling, yet fully possessed of innovative IWC mechanical technology, the Aquatimer Automatic is a fine representative of IWC sport watches.

The two large crowns on the right-hand side of the watch immediately distinguish the IWC Aquatimer Automatic from other elite dive watches. The topmost crown which screws down against the case, allows hand winding when necessary, and also enables setting of the time and the date; the lower crown controls the unidirectional time-lapse bezel. This uniquely configured internal bezel is quintessential IWC, having first debuted in the company's original Aquatimer from 1967.

The dial of the Aquatimer Automatic is strikingly attractive yet utilitarian; the polished indices and hands give subtle elegance, while the luminous elements ensure that the watch is effectively read in low ambient light. The thick, convex sapphire crystal of the watch effectively resists the crushing pressure of the abyssal ocean depths, while remaining perfectly lucid at oblique angles. Of further note--and a perfect example of IWC's passion for superior engineering--the meticulous nature in which the crystal is fitted makes unnecessary the addition of the helium release devices that are employed by most professional dive watches to prevent crystal extrusion from saturation dive ascents.

The IWC Aquatimer Automatic watch utilizes the 30110 calibre movement, which incorporates a date display, sweep seconds, and a power reserve of 42 hours. A functional and flawlessly crafted bracelet that is easily lengthened or shortened via the unique IWC adjustment system ideally suits the exacting case of the Aquatimer; for those who prefer a lighter-weight watch, the alternative IWC rubber dive strap is a more casual, yet equally attractive option.
