The two large crowns on the right-hand side of the watch immediately distinguish the IWC Aquatimer Automatic from other elite dive watches. The topmost crown which screws down against the case, allows hand winding when necessary, and also enables setting of the time and the date; the lower crown controls the unidirectional time-lapse bezel. This uniquely configured internal bezel is quintessential IWC, having first debuted in the company's original Aquatimer from 1967.

The IWC Aquatimer Automatic watch utilizes the 30110 calibre movement, which incorporates a date display, sweep seconds, and a power reserve of 42 hours.
