The Hybris Mechanica Grand Sonnerie Watch can be summed up easily in a few statements. The world’s most complex wrist watch, limited edition of 30, costs $2.5 million dollars and comes in a safe as a presentation box. Also comes as part of a set with two other highly complex Jaeger-LeCoultre watches, the Gyrotourbillon and Reverso a Tryptique. Together the watches will boast an incredible 55 complications. The Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s way of upping the bar and creating the most complex wrist watch on the planet. Functions include (aside from the time), Westminster chimes, grand sonnerie, petit sonnerie, silent mode, minute repeater, flying tourbillon, perpetual calendar, jumping hours, retrograde days, date, and month, leap year display, and a power reserve indicator for both the mainspring and the sonnerie complication. There is more to it than just that of course, with lots of other details involved in the movement and the presentation of the information on the watch.

The watch will hold the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 182 movement that has over 1300 parts. The case will be in 18k white gold and 44mm wide by 15mm tall. Very reasonable dimensions given the incredible amount of parts inside of the extraordinarily complex watch. Jaeger-LeCoultre did an incredible job making the watch simple to look at and read, which is a testament to not only their engineer prowess, but design expertise. The title of “world’s most complex watch” is not passed very often, perhaps a few times a century, if that. If there was ever a watch worthy of being a collector’s piece, the Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie is likely to be one of them.
