MIKIMOTO is currently exhibiting a collection of rare sash clips - called obidome - at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the JAPAN! Culture + Hyper Culture exhibit. This Japan exhibit brings together more than 450 artists, more than 40 performances, and more than a dozen free events and exhibitions to showcase Japanese culture including theater and dance, music and fashion, architecture and sculpture, poetry and literature, photography and film.
The obidome collection is being lent to the exhibition in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kokichi Mikimoto. The sash clips are a kind of brooch worn on the front of the kimono. Many of the obidome on display were made during the founder's life. They represent MIKIMOTO's long standing tradition to excellence and style. Many of the clips are crafted from precious metals, pearls and gemstones with highest quality craftsmanship.
The obidome are on loan from the Mikimoto Pearl Island Museum in Toba, Japan.
The JAPAN! Kenndey Center exhibition is free and is open daily from February 7 - 17, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
