Baselworld 2009: Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton 1919 Watch
By Adam Keith, Associate Timepiece Editor for ViaLuxe-

The Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton 1919 watch pays tribute to the founding year of the Milus brand, a year in which Paul William Junod of Bienne set about realizing his vision of a functional everyday wristwatch possessing desirability as an object of style.  An elegant showcase for the signature triple retrograde seconds complication that has become a virtual signature of the house of Milus, this limited edition Tirion model presents unique details which denote its special status within the collection.

The Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton 1919 watch measures 45mm in diameter, its complex 9-part case being wrought from 6N 18-karat red gold--an alloy immediately suggestive of the gold color in fashion during first quarter of the 20th century.  The visually captivating triad of blued steel retrograde hands, their beveled underlying bridges, and the large blued hour and minute hands gain attain particular distinction in this model thanks to an off-white dial plate with brilliant blue Arabic numerals.  The 20-second sectors for the retrograde hands mimic the tone of the gold case, and display a font recalling that seen on watches from the founding age of Milus.  The seconds alternate in a clockwise motion around the dial, the first cycle beginning at 6--as each hand completes its arc, it instantly springs back to its starting position, while its "neighbor" immediately continues and repeats the pattern.  A circular window at 6 o'clock showcases the large date display.

Six screws secure the caseback, which features a sapphire crystal window to allow a view of the self-winding movement.  Using as its base a proven and reliable ETA caliber, this mechanism employs the exclusive Milus 3838 retrograde module.  Aesthetic nuances of the caliber include a circular grained finish on the plate and bridges, and a central winding rotor relieved to present the Milus logo proudly at center.  Balance frequency is 28,800 vibrations per hour, and power reserve is approximately 42 hours.

Production will be restricted to a series of 38 pieces.  The Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton 1919 watch is completed by a strap in dark brown alligator leather, and a tang buckle or folding clasp in 18K red gold.  The model features a convex sapphire crystal, and is water resistant to 30 meters.
