BASELWORLD 2007 Watch Show Report Day One Part Two After BASELWORLD 2007 was officially kicked out with the BASELWORLD 2007 press conference, we had the opportunity to look around and get a sneak preview of the showroom. What we saw was a ton of people working real hard at the 9th hour trying to get everything just perfect. I was blown away by how much work actually goes into this show. It had to take thousands of hours to get the show built, organized, and battle ready.

When you walk into the show the first thing you see is the "great wall" of Corum, followed by the "good ship" Ulysse-Nardin, both of which are amazing assemblies. Ulysse-Nardin actually built what looks like a three story pirate ship with restaurant (galley) on the top floor.

As you go deeper into the horological chasm you will easily find some of the finest brands in the luxury watch market. Walk straight up the center and you will find the Swatch compound with a large percentage of the compound dedicated to Omega. The Omega structure looks more like a Bergdorf-Goodman or a Barney's department store then a watch boutique at conference. Its just massive.

Keep going you will run into all the usual suspects such as Patek, Jacquet Droz, Chanel, and the avante garde edifice of Tag Heuer.

One of the best parts of today was getting to see some of the new pieces. Glashutte Originale was showing strong with their new PanoTourbillon XL and the new Senator Rattrapante. These watches are bigger and bolder then some of their previous pieces. At 42mm, you just can't miss the new PanoTourbillon XL. The Senator Rattrapante is also significantly bigger then the 38mm cases we are used to from Glashutte.

Those looking for a great dress watch might not look much further then the Glashutte Original Senator Sixties collection. These are time-only pieces with delicate markers and satin finished dials. They definitely live up to their name and would accessorize perfectly with any suit or tuxedo.

Omega joined the big square watch club this year with a new piece that appears to be called the X2. These big hearty pieces comes in black and silver dial combinations and have chronograph and power reserve functionality.
