Collectors and fans of Omega watches have received some exciting news. The first watch store devoted exclusively to vintage Omega watches has opened in London. Located in the upscale Burlington Arcade, within the Somlo Antiques shop, the Omega Vintage Store will feature a range of important Omega timepieces from the early to the mid-20th century, including early 1930's chronographs, chronometers from the 1940's and mid-1950's Speedmaster chronograph models. The inauguration of the store follows the heightened collector interest in vintage Omega watches, evidenced by an April 2007 "Omegamania" auction by Antiquorum, which saw many vintage Omega watches selling for prices far in excess of their pre-auction estimates.
Respected vintage watch specialist George Somlo is the proprietor of the Omega Vintage Store, which has received a warm blessing from Omega President Stephen Urquhart. Urquhart commented, "To follow the success of the Omegamania auction we felt the time was right to take an innovative approach in what is probably the world’s leading vintage watch market. Given Omega’s rich and interesting history and George Somlo’s expertise, I’m sure it will be a great success.” All of the Omega watches sold at the Omega Vintage Store are approved by Omega, and are sold with a certificate of authenticity, as well as a two-year warranty.
