Patek Philippe Celestial Calendar Ref. 5106 Unique Watch

With Only Watch 2009 coming up in September, major watch brands are showing off their additions to the renowned charity auction in Monaco. Always included is Patek Philippe with an interesting addition this year – which is as always a unique, one-off watch creation. This is the Celestial Calendar Reference 5106 watch that is in an 18k rose gold case with a non-standard 22k rose gold bezel that has been delicately guilloche decorated. The watch is larger than it looks at 44.2mm wide, but just 11.15mm thick.
The automatic movement features a micro-rotor in 22k gold and a range of celestial complications. To really enjoy the watch you need to be in Geneva. Why? Because that is the frame of reference point for the sky chart on the dial of the watch. The chart is meant to show you the position of the stars in the sky over Geneva based on the time of year. Therefore, if you are elsewhere in the world, the watch will just remind you of the sky in Switzerland. You also have the position of the moon as well as the moon phase - this is a very rare complication. You also see the date displayed on the periphery of the dial. Amazingly, the watch indications are all very accurate – with Patek Philippe being able to accurately predict how often (which is rarely rarely) the indicators require any adjustments. The beautiful blue dial is complimented with rose gold, and especially nice is the “dusted” Milky Way. The date numerals are metalized underneath the sapphire crystal. There will be only one Patek Philippe Ref 5106 watch and it will be available at the Only Watch 2009 auction.
