Baselworld 2009: TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition

TAG Heuer celebrates the distinguished racing heritage of its Monaco watch design with a new limited edition timepiece.  Featuring a striking commemorative dial and a subtly enlarged case, the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition pays homage to the Gulf Oil-sponsored Porsche 917K car piloted by actor Steve McQueen in the film "Le Mans".

The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition features a 39mm stainless steel case.  Subtle brushed accents offer a handsome contrast against the predominant polished surfaces and highlight the distinctive sportiness of the meteor grey dial with its square subdials, faceted hour markers, and characteristic blue and orange Gulf accents.  A circular Gulf logo above the date window at six o'clock leaves no ambiguity concerning the colorful heritage of this chronograph, which deviates from the historic Heuer Monaco watch in its use of a crystal in scratch-resistant sapphire, in lieu of hesalite.

This timepiece also features a sapphire window on its back, through which the owner can admire the workings of the self-winding TAG Heuer Caliber 12--a development of the functional and reliable Dubois-Depraz 2008.  With a balance wheel frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the chronograph function can record periods of elapsed time to within 1/8th second.  Power reserve of the Caliber 12 movement is approximately 42 hours.

Production of the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition will be restricted to a series of 5,000 pieces.  Each watch is fitted with a grey alligator leather strap, and is rated water resistant to 100 meters.  The global launch of this timepiece is slated for September 2009.
