Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Ludovico watch The Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Ludovico watch represents the pinnacle of achievement within the Michelangelo family of watches, and shows off the remarkable craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity of Ulysse Nardin. Immediately recognizable due to its graceful tonneau form, the Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Ludovico watch features an exceptional mechanism which revolutionizes the complex mechanics of the perpetual calendar complication.  Indicating day of the week, date, month, and calendar year, the Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Ludovico watch will automatically take into account the varying length of months, while allowing for leap years.

What makes this timepiece mechanically different from other fine perpetual calendar watches, is its unique implementation of circular elements (epicycloidal wheels, Maltese crosses, etc.) rather than the levers, cams, and springs employed in traditional perpetual calendar mechanisms, which are considerably more delicate and correspondingly difficult to service.  The Ulysse Nardin system, devised by Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, enables the calendar to be corrected backwards as well as forwards, a characteristic utterly unique in a perpetual calendar watch.

Not only is this solution exceptionally friendly to its wearer, it also prevents any setting-related damage to the mechanism.  It should be noted that while heirs of traditional perpetual calendars will be seeking out a watchmaker to perform an adjustment in 2100 due to the vagaries of the Gregorian calendar, the future owners of the Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Ludovico watch will require nothing more than to turn the crown to re-synchronize the displays.  The remarkable selfwinding UN-33 movement which animates the Perpetual Ludovico watch is applied with traditional "Cotes Circulaires" decorations on the bridges, and the white gold winding rotor which powers this watch to its 42-hour power reserve is inset with the Ulysse Nardin anchor in a rich blue enamel.

Ulysse Nardin offers the Perpetual Ludovico watches in a range of interpretations that are carried out in flawlessly finished 18K white or rose gold cases, on either a strap or bracelet. Also included within this collection is the Perpetual Ludovico Limited Edition watch, which features a brilliant blue dial and matching crocodile strap, and is strictly limited to 250 pieces.  The elegant Roman dials of the Perpetual Ludovico watches are available in several color variants, and a diamond-set bezel is also an option, for those who prefer the appearance of this fine timepiece to be as brilliant as its horological substance.
