Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver Watch

Ulysse Nardin is famous for its association with Marine Chronometers. The company’s roots are set in the world of chronometers that were used by mariner’s world wide beginning in the late 1800’s. Ulysse has taken this nautical heritage to the next level with the Maxi Marine Diver. The Maxi Marine stands out first and foremost with its bold round case and thick bezel. Measuring 42.7 mm in diameter this is a large sports watch.  The bezel dominates the case and gives it a very sporty look. Ulysse Nardin sets this timepiece apart from the competition with the dial.

Every feature of the dial design on the Maxi Marine is bold and unique. The dial markers are large luminescent geometric square shapes that give the Maxi Marine a very symmetrical look. One can easily tell the time at a glance thanks to the oversized hour and minute hands on this watch. Each hand is shaped like a propeller and with a solid luminescent tip and open half that connects to the center of the dial. The dial itself is fun to look at and is guaranteed to turn some heads when you wear this watch. Ulysse has designed the dial with a dotted relief that gives the watch a three dimensional appearance.

Perhaps one of the most elegant features of this timepiece is the way in which Ulysse has integrated the seconds subdial and the date window. Set at six o’clock the seconds sub dial also contains the “1846” logo in red which adds to the sporty appearance of the Maxi Marine. Ulysse has placed the power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock making it easy to read. The Maxi Marine’s UN-26 movement has a power reserve of 42 hours and is water resistant to 200 meters.

Maxi marine diver is a very big success in watchmaking as far as the style is concerned. I beliwe MMD reflects the philosophy of Ulysse Nardin very well; you do not no need to sacrifise the elegant and dinstinct flavor to style a sport watch, which fully functions it’s targetted duties. MMD really proves a robust, reliable, functional and pratical diver’s watch could also be as elagant and prestigous as a fine dress watch.
