Vacheron Constantin’s Third And Final Les Masques Watch Collectio

Novelties like this prove that Vacheron Constantin can be a hip and creative brand. When I first eyed The Masks (Les Masques) watches a few years ago I was totally intrigued. Sure it was a statement built into a watch, but the theme and artistry was superb. People don’t realize just how hard it is to make each mask. I learned that the artists who make them (each by hand) have to throw away a large amount of the masks as they simply mess up because the detail is so hard to accomplish correctly.

The point of the Vacheron Constantin Mask watches is to highlight the cultural masks. For this final collection (the third) the four masks represent cultures from Indonesia (Oceania), China, Mexico, and Gabon in Africa. Masks themselves are a highly emotional and communicative device, and the sentiment is emulated perfectly in the watches. The functionality is displayed around the central mask by disks under the tinted dial. The complications include the minutes, hours, date, and day – each on rotating discs. Each model also features a poem around the face, but written in French. Each model arrives in a 40mm wide case with a different metal for each watch including either 18k pink, yellow or white gold, and one version in platinum. Inside the watches is the in-house made Vacheron Constantin Calbre VC 2460 automatic mechanical movement.

I hope that you’ll agree the watches are a bold statement. Certainly not for everyone, but each fully embodies the myth and mystere of the cultures they represent. Really a fine collector’s line – the Mask watches are limited to 25 sets of 4 watches each (you must buy them all together).
