ViaLuxe Previews the Dior Tourbillon With Dior's Mauro Egermini

The Dior Christal Tourbillon is a dazzling creation of luxury watchmaking which unites the arts of haute horlogerie and haute joaillerie. Interpreted with the unique flair for design that defines each creation of the house of Dior, the Christal Tourbillon watch mesmerizes the eye with its contrasting theme of baguette diamonds and black sapphire crystals, set against the backdrop of polished 18K white gold.

To create the magnificent manually wound tourbillon movement, Dior turned to the specialty firm of Les Ateliers Horlogers, and its dynamic Directeur General Mauro Egermini. The result of this collaboration is a high fashion artwork of rare transparency, which showcases a one-minute tourbillon within a structure of bridges crafted from sapphire and white gold. Mounted on a black sapphire jewel, the tourbillon itself creates a dynamic intrigue against the spectacular galaxy of baguette diamonds in the dial's center. Vialuxe's Giulio Chezzi sat down with Mr. Egermini at Baselworld for an overview this amazing new timepiece. Here is the result of that interview:


GIULIO CHEZZI, VIALUXE:
Hello everyone, my name is Giulio Chezzi and welcome to Baselworld. Today we are here with the wonderful and enigmatic Mauro from Dior. Welcome thank you for joining us here at ViaLuxe. We are here to talk about the new Dior Tourbillon which is being exhibited today at Basel. Mauro, tell me - brief history about the watch.

MAURO, DIOR:
Just to be consistent - at the beginning when we launched the Dior Christal, the shape was a watchmaking shape - but the watches was dressed with sapphire. To stay consistent with this family of products we looked for a movement - and the only sapphire movement existing on the market was the tourbillon. That is the reason we choose this tourbillon.

VIALUXE:
Can you tell us a little more about the carat weight of baguette diamonds running down?

MAURO:
We have three parts with diamonds. First we have the bridge - the central bridge of the movement which is part of the movement. This bridge is made of baguette diamonds but the setting is an invisible setting so you have the sensation that the diamonds are floating on the movement. The second thing is we have a complete row of diamonds on the bezel. The third thing - we have central links that are all set with diamonds. So what I can say with the bracelet - I think the most impressive thing is the bracelet and the central links because we have stones which are enormous.

I think it’s a wonderful thing that you are doing - and for us - I have to say this is a magnificent jewelry piece also Haute Horlogerie as well and when can we expect the first piece in the United States?

MAURO:
As soon possible.
