New ultra-luxury Swiss watch brand Maîtres du Temps has marked the introduction of their exceptionally complex Chapter One watch by undergoing a ten-day tour of Asia--one of the most significant markets for exclusive timepieces. The tour, which took place from June 10 to June 20, kicked off in Hong Kong, before moving on to Taipei, Singapore, Shanghai, and Beijing. Maîtres du Temps founder Steven Holtzman embarked on the tour with Mr. Roger Dubuis, one of the three famed watchmakers involved in the creation of the Chapter One timepiece. Guests in each locale were treated to an intimate and exclusive dinner with cocktails where they naturally had the chance to meet Mr. Dubuis, and learn about the many technical features of the Maîtres du Temps brand and the Chapter One watch, which was on hand for viewing.
Maîtres du Temps expects to deliver the first Chapter One watches to Hong Kong by September of 2008. Limited to a series of just 11 pieces each in 18K red gold, 18K white gold, or titanium, the Chapter One will carry a price tag of approximately USD $395,000--a notable figure for a new timepiece from such a youthful brand.
The Maîtres du Temps brand was officially launched at the Baselworld 2008 exhibition, in April. The Chapter One watch is the joint vision of Holtzman in concert with watchmakers Christophe Claret, Roger Dubuis, and Peter Speake-Marin; Chapter One's many complications include a tourbillon, retrograde date indications, and a monopoussoir chronograph, in addition to uniquely conceived moonphase and day of the week displays that utilize a system of rollers. Future watches from Maîtres du Temps will be forthcoming, each intended to be a showcase for the utmost in haute horlogerie craftsmanship and technical and aesthetic creativity.
